The program of arts therapies at Sara's Center includes painting, music and movement modalities, as well as many other ways for clients to enhance their self-growth through creative expression.

The primary goal at Sara's Center is to help clients achieve the highest quality of life possible. To help achieve this goal, the Center combines creative arts therapies with daily living skills training. Throughout the process, we emphasize the importance of sharing and working together - focusing on group experiences, emulating the kinds of human interaction our clients must face each day in their own communities.

Our programs of creative arts therapies include the following applications:

Music therapy
     Singing, playing instruments, writing music

Art therapy
     Painting, sculpture, clayworks, drawing

Expressive therapy
     Culinary arts, writing, drama, role-playing, poetry

Movement therapy
      Yoga, dance, Tai Chi

Relaxation therapy
      Guided imagery, creative visualization, meditation, aromatherapy



Our program of daily living skills includes the following applications:

Household management
     Cooking, shopping, budgeting

Employment issues
     Job responsibilities, methods for working successfully with others

Time management
    
Planning a day, sticking to schedules, fulfilling responsibilities

Community interaction
     Using public transportation, taking trips

Interpersonal skills
    
Sexuality and the dynamics of relationships between men and women

Sara's Center clients learn to become self-sufficient and independent by turning the creative process into an experience that mirrors real life. The ultimate goal of the Center is to provide clients with the means to not just exist, but thrive, in today's society. Several of our clients have created pieces of art, including greeting cards, which can be purchased from our Sara's Center gift shop.
